Sardines and Omega 3 fats

Many believe sardine oil contains Omega 3 fats. What does Omega 3 do. Many claim that it purifies blood by removing bad cholestrol. Sardines were cheapest of all the fish in Muscat Oman. But now other fish are expensive, say, Hamur ( Hamour Hamoor) cost two Omani Riaals or more, a kilo, Sardine costs just 700 baizas in Lulu, Sultan Centre or Carrefour, not forgetting Fairtrade, penny pinching fish eaters line up to buy sardines.
Salalah sardines are big, very big, each weiging some 150 grams. Muscat residents , often do not know that, dried sardines are given as fodder to cows in Salalah. My friend Kiran, who used to work for Bakheet al Qatan (once General manager of Omantel) first told me this story. Bullshit, I thought, but later National Georgraphic mazagine reported this in a special issue on Oman.

Pompio

I am not sure about the spelling, but the name is Swahili. I have a great number of Swahili speaking friends, to whom I would like to say Jambo! One of them, Sheikha Masoud has a small garden in her office. All manner of indoor plants, including something called Pompio. What is special about Pompio is that, once crushed or cut, the leaves emit a frangrant smell. It is unique, it is good. I took several cuttings to india, but none of them grew roots. Finally, she said, take my plant with roots, it will grow.
Now , in India the plant has grown big, and since it has no name, i call it joellum sheikha!

sheikhas family had brought this plant from Zanzibar.

Exchange

Miriam bought a gold chain from Muscat, like she always does, just before her trip to India.
Once in India, she thought she should get a different pattern. Not difficult, because in her hometown in India, there was showrroom of the same same jeweller from whom she had bought the gold chain.
The chain was only 4 days old in her possession, and it was worn only during the flight. The branch agreed to exchange, but, she would have to pay making charges once again.
"well this is 40 grams, if I dont pay any money, but want just another chain, what could be the weight of my new chain? Mirium wanted to know.
And the reply was
"30 gms Madam"
